Thanks to Megan at HarperCollins, we have two (2) copies to give away of the forthcoming debut novel by Dana Precious, Born Under a Lucky Moon. This book will be released by Morrow Paperback on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 ($14.95). Here is a synopsis of the story and a brief profile of the author.
Born Under a Lucky Moon is the tale of two very important (but distant) years in the lives of Jeannie Thompson and her (embarrassing, crazy) colorful family members to whom “things” just happen. From the Great Lakes of Michigan to Los Angeles and back again, it is a story of surprise marriages, a renegade granny, a sprinkler system cursed by the gods, and myriad other factors Jeannie blames for her full-tilt and out-of-control existence. But it’s also about good surprises – like an unexpected proposal that might just open Jeannie’s eyes to her real place among the people she loves most in the world… the same ones she ran far away from to begin with.
“Lucky the reader who picks up this funny, charming and touching debut novel. I loved it.” Susan Elizabeth Phillips, New York Times bestselling author
Dana Precious lives in L.A. with her husband and son. She has two dogs: a small border terrier named Thompson (as in Hunter – long story) and Bella, a very large bullmastiff whose activity of choice is sleeping on the couch and watching Oprah. Prior to writing, Diana worked for several major film studios.

The craziest thing about someone in my family is that my mom won’t eat chicken because she had to take care of the chicken coop as a kid.

This book sounds wonderful and unique. thanks for this great review.
My rescue dog, Bogie is extremely energetic and has a thing for UPS trucks. Not a fan of them. He chased one down the street once only, which was scary and frightening for me, more than for him.
Great giveaway, I’d love to read this!

The craziest thing about someone in my family is that my mother talks in her sleep, which is quite hilarious. She has said many random things (Superman is coming with a hot fudge sundae!) but my favorite was when she had seen Interview With the Vampire for the first time and we had to wake her up because she was yelling at Brad Pitt in her sleep “don’t eat it Brad! It’s a rat! Don’t eat it!!” We still laugh at her for that one lol.

Cute book cover!
My mom once found the skeletal remains of a kitty in the crawl space under the house. She put it in a box and gave it to her younger sister because that sister was the only one that had pet cats. My mom was in her 40’s at the time.
CRAZY!
I’d love to win this book! Sounds lovely.

This is funny the craziest thing about someone in my family is my father’s first car that was so ugly and a secondhand crashed as he drove it somewhere in the steppe mountains along with his driving mentor his cousin. They both landed in the hospital for some minor injuries. I’m happy that was his first and last car ever… because we never have always wanted him to drive.
I would love to read this book.

Would love to win a copy of this book!
The craziest thing about someone in my family would have to be the fact that my son is a human jumprope. He can lock his hands together in front of him and without letting them go can climb over them with his legs, bring them up around, over his head and back in front of him where he started. Crazy!!
Would love to win this! THanks!
I wasn’t sure I would throw my name into the mix for this book until I read the remainder of the prologue and most importantly the last two paragraphs. I love the statement, “This is just one story of my family. It starts with a long-planned wedding on a Saturday, followed by a surprise wedding on Sunday. It ends with a murder and a sex scandal. Like every relationship in every family, this story doesn’t reside in the black and white of right and wrong. It resides in the gray area called love.” This book really sounds like a fun read so thanks for the opportunity.
Would love a copy.
We had a cat named Xena, after the Warrior Princess. She definitely lived up to her name. She thought we were all her serfs and when she started attacking me every time I sat down at my computer, we had to sadly put her to sleep. The vet said she had mental issues. I thought we should have named her Anne of Green Gables or Beth from Little Women! LOL
This sounds like a wonderful read.
Back in the 40s my cat, Mittens, would sit on the edge of the wringer washer and bat at the soap suds when mom did the wash. That is until the day she leaned over too far and fell in!
This looks like an enjoyable book!
One of the crazy things in my family is my Cuban mother-in-law who puts hexes on people. After bad things happened to someone she put a hex on, I almost believed it!
Love to read this book!

I have a very strange cat! Whenever we play Yahtzee (a game with dice) she comes running out and sits on a chair by the table. She then proceeds to put her paws on the edge of the table and waits for us to give her a dice which she then hits on the floor and plays with! Happens every time!
